Wishing everyone a great year!

Hello everyone,

It has been a privilege and an incredible experience to help found and run the Aviation Society over the past two years. We founded this society as a small student-run group in the summer of 2018 with the goal of fostering a strong aviation community at UW. It has been an amazing team effort and we have since grown to over 300 members and been able to host some memorable events such as the Aviation Gala, Aviation Career Day, Bowling Nights, among others. I have learned a lot these two years working alongside some phenomenal student leaders in our aviation community. It would also not have been possible without the extraordinary support of those at the University of Waterloo (including: Dr. Suzanne Kearns, Maryam Latifpoor-Keparoutis, and Dr. Ian McKenzie), the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre, WUSA, SciSoc and ESS.

This weekend we completed a transition meeting with the new-elected team of student leaders that will continue to grow this group. As we go through a difficult time in the aviation industry there will unique challenges that the new team will face. However, I am confident that they will be able to find new and innovative ways to continue the success of this group – providing amazing opportunities for those in our growing aviation community here at UW. We leave the new team a $2000+ surplus and a number of other resources that I hope will help in advancing the society’s mission over the coming year. I would like to congratulate each of the newly-elected executives and representatives and I wish each of you the absolute best this year! I am very excited to see the society grow even more over the coming years and I look forward to attending (virtual, and hopefully soon, some in-person) events and continuing to be involved as an alumni.

Wishing everyone a great year!

Sincerely,

Dan Chaudhry
